Galatians 5:13 13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh ; rather, serve one another humbly in love.

An EV Free church member volunteers in a 4th grade classroom at Valencia Park Elementary through OC United. Every week, little Carmina asks, “…will you be my mentor?” But, she was already there as someone else’s mentor. Carmina continued to ask every week until our volunteer opened up another hour of her week to mentor Carmina.

We’re thankful she freed up extra time to mentor because who knows the impact she’ll have in Carmina’s life, but we also realized how great the need is and how unsustainable our current model would be to make long-lasting change. So, through the relationships we’ve built with students and with support from parents and staff we’re preparing to launch after-school program called the S.A.Y. Yes! Center in Valencia Park Elementary.

We’re thankful for our volunteers and the supporters who’ve contributed to the work God is doing in Valencia Park. Now we’re able to recruit and train more volunteers, have a consistent presence, and provide a more sustainable partnership serving the families in Valencia Park with love.

How exciting! I can’t wait for the United Kids after-school program to open in Mid-April.
