Overall, my internship with OCU has strengthened my commitment to approaching care with a trauma-informed lens, and has provided me with more insight & education to be able to do so. I had previously not recognized the need for foster & kinship support in my own community, and the lack of resources offered to most families. Having the opportunity to listen to the stories of the families OCU serves, while also learning how to connect them with appropriate resources, has been inspiring and strengthened my resolve to continue in the field. I hope to use my experience by applying my gained knowledge in trauma-informed care to my future work in public health & medicine. In addition to the experience I have gained in the social work field, I have learned so many skills that I will be able to apply throughout my professional career. Working with my cohort of interns to learn how to navigate salesforce, as well as learn how to communicate with the families we served, has given me invaluable experience in an incredibly supportive environment!
